CD102 is a nanoparticulate formulation that slowly releases dexamethasone in a controlled fashion. Its main features are:
- Application in therapeutic areas including inflammatory diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, asthma and ulcerative colitis
- Less suppression of the adrenal glands
- Enhanced accumulation in inflamed tissue
- Sustained dexamethasone levels, requiring less administrations
Dexamethasone is an off-patent drug and is used in various generic formulations. The main interest for development of nanoparticulate corticosteroids systems is to achieve sustained suppression of (chronic) inflammations. The beneficial pharmacokinetic profile of CD102 has been demonstrated in mice. Currently, therapeutic efficacy studies in relevant disease models are being initiated.
